Surrendering God!

From The Heart of Pastor Shane (May 20, 2019)

My wife asked me one morning this question: “What does surrendering to God mean to you?”  How do you answer this question?  The common answer is: “To give everything to Jesus!”  However, the question remains, do you truly give everything to Jesus.  If Jesus were to ask you to give up something you like to do in life, would you totally surrender it to Him?

Suppose Jesus said to give up playing a sport, hunting, or hobby, would you truly surrender it to the Lordship of Christ?  What if He asked you to surrender and tithe 10% to His work?  Would you make an excuse and say you cannot afford to do it.  What about your time?  Do you truly surrender your time to go worship God on a daily basis?  Are you too busy and make up excuses on why you cannot be in the Lord’s house to worship Him?  The list goes on…

There are many people who want full control of their life.  They refuse to surrender to the Lordship of Jesus.  A common phrase in the church today is: “I am going to surrender my life to Jesus.” Romans 12:1 says: “Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.”

We have become a society who is so selfish and so full of ourselves and complacent in sitting in our own comfortable chairs and pews, that we truly do not surrender everything to our Savior.  Can you truly sing with truth these lyrics: “I Surrender All;  I Surrender All;  All to thee my Blessed Savior; I Surrender All.”  Amen!
