Satisfaction!

From The Heart of Pastor Shane (August 14, 2019)

Friend, why is it that not matter how much stuff we get or how much stuff we have, we just can’t be satisfied?  God talks about the high cost of coveting what others have.  Exodus 20:17 says: “Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.”

We somehow convince ourselves that others are wealthier than we are and we fall into a snare of temptation, wanting what someone else has.  The Bible warns us in 1 Timothy 6:9: “But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.”  There is nothing wrong with  being rich or wealthy, but there is a problem with desiring to be wealthy.  Why?  Because when we start desiring to be wealthy, we want what other people have.

Have you stopped to think that you should be grateful for what God has blessed you with?  One of my favorite verses in Philippians 4:11 says: “I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.”  This passage tells me that if I have a lot I am satisfied and if I don’t have a lot I am satisfied.  I finally learned many years ago that God owns it all and none of it is mine anyway.  What is important is that I have God.  Friend, we need to come to the realization if we’ve got God, we’ve got all we need and we should have satisfaction.  Amen!
