Partiality!

From The Heart of Pastor Shane (February 22, 2019)

Have you been placed in a position where you live, work, or play that favoritism and partiality is being demonstrated?  The Bible is crystal clear that favoritism is not God’s will for our lives.  To be honest, favoritism is right in line with discrimination.  I am thankful that we serve a God that is equal and does not show favoritism.  In Romans 2:11 we read: “For God does not show favoritism.”  Favoritism is partiality or bias and always gives preference to one person over others.

Anyone who claims to be a believer should never show favoritism toward others.  Treating others differently is wrong in the eyes of God.  In James chapter 2 the Bible speaks of the “royal law,” where and points out that treating people differently because of status or dress is wrong.  As a matter of fact, it is a sin. Showing favoritism is severe wrongdoing against God’s command to love your neighbor as you love yourself.

As a Pastor and church leader, I take what Paul commanded Timothy in 1 Timothy 5:21 seriously, where he said: “I solemnly command you in the presence of God and Christ Jesus and the highest angels to obey these instructions without taking sides or showing favoritism to anyone.”

Today, there are many people who have been granted positions of power in their business or organization and they have a tendency to show partiality
