Missing The Mark!

From The Heart of Pastor Shane (March 26, 2019)

Many people on this planet have different views of who Jesus Christ really is.  2,000 years ago some knew Him just as a carpenter’s son, some today believe He is just a prophet.  I have heard others say that Jesus was just a good man.  Some say that Jesus was a great Bible teacher.  Friend, anyone who makes such statements or alludes to such comments as this is “Missing The Mark!”

Jesus Himself told who He was in John 10:30 when He said: “I and the Father are one.”  When Jesus came to this planet, He came as God in the flesh (John 1:14).  Paul described Jesus as “…our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.”  Peter referred to Jesus as God in (2 Peter 1:1).  The thought that Jesus is only a prophet, carpenter, teacher, good man, etc. is not an option if you want to have eternal life.

Jesus is the Son of God.  Jesus is God.  If He is not God then He is a liar and the Bible is a lie and if that is the case, then there is no hope.  The reason it is is important to us to understand and believe that Jesus is God is because of what 1 John 2:2 says: “And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.”  In other words: Jesus Himself is the sacrifice that atones our sins and not only our sins but the sins of all of the world.

In conclusion we must realize that Jesus had to be God so that our sin debt could be paid.  Jesus is the only way to the Father as well as eternal life beyond the grave.  John 14:6 gives us this assurance because Jesus said: “I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one can come to the Father except through me.”  When we get Jesus, we get God the Father.  Don’t miss the mark!  Amen!
