Counting The Cost!

From The Heart of Pastor Shane (April 2, 2019)

There are so many things that keep people from making a total commitment to the Lord Jesus.  For Christ’s disciples, there is no option for compromise.  Everything we do in this life has a cost associated with it.  The Bible says in Luke 14:28–30 “But don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first calculating the cost to see if there is enough money to finish it? Otherwise, you might complete only the foundation before running out of money, and then everyone would laugh at you. They would say, ‘There’s the person who started that building and couldn’t afford to finish it!’”

Many times people have this mentality that following Jesus as a disciple means that they have to give up all of their valuable possessions and/or friendships.  But in reality, Jesus gives us a challenge that is really a wake-up call.  There is nothing in this world that is as important as lost souls for Jesus.  I don’t believe it is a sacrifice to give up the temporary things this world has to offer for the eternal purposes that God has.  To be honest, what would be a total loss is turning our backs on this lost and dying world to pursue worldly passions and desires.

When we begin to realize the worth of Christ, everything else in life or on this planet becomes nothing in comparison.  There will be a day when we have to stand before Jesus and we must be assured that the cost will be counted before Him for what we do for Him now in our lives.  Amen!
