Competitive Jealousy!

From The Heart of Pastor Shane (January 22, 2019)

There are some who want to be the only show in town and to be a monopoly on whatever it is that they are doing, and they do not like any kind of perceived competition, which many times leads to jealousy. Today in our society we hear things such as, "Their church is the best church, their class is the biggest class, their ministry is the biggest ministry. The problem with this competitive or jealous mentality is that as believers we are all on the same team, striving for the same goal, and serving the same Lord!

As a Christian who is called to serve in ministry, I have never tried to stand on the stage and share the spotlight with Jesus. I’ve seen far too many folks both in the church and out of it that want the limelight. They long to be looked up to, and to be exalted in the eyes of men. Why are we living day-by-day with a competitive spirit of jealousy? My friend, there is only One whose name is above every name and His name is Jesus! When we stand or serve in ministry, we should be giving ALL glory and honor to none other than Jesus Christ. If I preach a good sermon, I don't accept the praise for it, I give it to Jesus for the working of His Holy Spirit. It is about Him!

My friend, whenever you begin to get an evil spirit of competitiveness or jealousy in our own lives and we think that everything is about you, you inevitably distract from the One it's really all about. In the end, when we pass from this world, all of the little things that we get jealous over or compete for are not going to make a hill of difference in eternity. Jesus Christ is the head of everything we experience and for that very reason and more, to Him alone be all the glory! It's not about me and it's not about you! Amen!

Colossians 3:23-24 reads, "Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.  Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ."
