Dedicating Our Children to The Lord!

From The Heart of Pastor Shane (April 10, 2019)

In 1 Samuel 1:11 we read: “And she made this vow: “O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, if you will look upon my sorrow and answer my prayer and give me a son, then I will give him back to you. He will be yours for his entire lifetime, and as a sign that he has been dedicated to the Lord, his hair will never be cut.”

Samuel’s life was the result of one woman’s prayer.  Hannah asked God for a son and made a covenant with God to give that son back to God.  May we pray that the Lord help each of us to give our sons and daughters to Him for His service.

In order to truly dedicate our children to the Lord, we must recognize that our children are a gift from the Lord.  Every child that has ever been born is a gift from God.  When we rear our children, we are doing it for His glory and for His will to be accomplished in their lives.

It is important as Christian parents that we learn when we dedicate our children to the Lord that we are desiring for our children what the Lord desires.  From this passage, we learn that as parents we must make a decision to give our children back to God.  In addition, we should be willing to give our children to God in all stages of life, not just as a newborn.  When we dedicate a child to Christ, that is only the beginning of giving the child to God.  All through life, that child must be yielded to God for God’s will to be done.

One of the most important things that we can do for our children is to see to it that they learn about God in their homes.  As parents we should be delighting in the opportunity and responsibility to teach our children about the things of God.  Does Christ abide in your family discussion time at home?  Do you want your children to walk in truth?  As Christians we have this responsibility.  Amen!
