Birthdays!

From The Heart of Pastor Shane (February 12, 2019)

I am celebrating my 44th Birthday, so I want to write today about what the Bible says about birthdays.  In God’s Word, there are two scripture references found regarding a birthday.  In Genesis 40:20-22, the Bible talks about Pharaoh’s birthday celebration and in Matthew 14:6-10 it references Herod’s birthday celebration.    There are many references in the Bible about birth and our physical death date.

The question we must all ask is:  Can we celebrate our birthday?  Friend, we were made in the image of God, therefore our physical birthday does reveal this.  However, the Bible puts more of an emphasis on a heavenly birthday.  You have heard the saying, “born once, die twice, but born twice, die once.”  The Bible tells us to look onward and plan for others heavenly birthday.

There are many people who are physically living on this planet, but they don’t have a personal relationship with Jesus.  In other words, they have not accepted Jesus as Savior of their life.  Perhaps many don’t even understand the importance of being reborn, therefore we should be preparing for the heavenly birthday of others.

In Ecclesiastes chapter three we read where there is a time to be born and a time to die.  We must face the fact that each of us will leave this temporary world in which we live, but our lives will continue on in one of two places.  Spiritually we all will spend eternity either in heaven or hell and that is based on the decision that we make during this temporary life.   Anyone who has placed their faith in Jesus will have their heavenly birthdate placed into the Lambs Book of Life.

In John 3:3 Jesus said: “Most assuredly, I say unto you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”  It is the will of our Lord and Savior that everyone on this planet experiences a heavenly birthday.  Let’s go out and find people together and share the good news of Jesus and let’s prepare and celebrate some heavenly birthdays.    Yes, today we will celebrate my physical birthday, but the most important thing in my life is finding people and celebrating with them their heavenly birthday. I praise God that at the age of 15 I accepted Jesus as Savior of my life and that is a moment I celebrate everyday of my life.  Amen!
