The Cost of Being A Believer!

From The Heart of Pastor Shane (August 22, 2019)

In Luke 14:28, Jesus asks one of His followers: “For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it.”  There is more involved in becoming a disciple of Jesus than going to an altar and praying a quoted prayer.  As disciples of Jesus, we are to love nothing and no one more than we love Jesus.  Christ should have our supreme devotion.  We are to deny ourselves and put to death our own pleasures and wants.  We did not get saved so we can do what we want.  We get saved to do what He wants.

There is nothing hidden in God’s word.  The Lord is very clear about the cost of following Him.  We must count the cost and decide whether or not we are truly going to follow Him.  I must admit that being a true Christian is not easy.  Following Christ requires nothing short of total devotion to Him and death to self.

The cost of being a believer is high, but consider the alternative.  Following Jesus into eternity is worth more than facing hell, regardless of what it cost us now.  Amen!
